Developed by me, Ednaldo Dos Santos, during my doctoral studies, Integrated Tactile Music Therapy is an innovative method aimed at the prevention of psychosomatic disorders. This approach is ideal for individuals who, for various reasons, are unable to engage in a continuous therapeutic process but require immediate therapeutic support in acute situations, such as stress during an exam week or an intense work period.
My work combines music therapy and multisensory interventions within a single session to promote deep relaxation, stress reduction, and emotional and physical balance. This is achieved through the integrated use of music and therapeutic tactile techniques.
The method consists of applying receptive music therapy techniques, in which music selected by the music therapist is used to achieve specific therapeutic goals, combined with various tactile stimulation techniques. These methods help relieve pain, reduce stress, improve blood circulation, and promote overall well-being.
Integrated Tactile Music Therapy: Benefits for Body and Mind
Stress Reduction
Integrated Tactile Music Therapy is an effective method for relaxation and for reducing everyday stress. The combination of music and tactile stimuli can induce relaxation and reduce emotional tension.
Promotion of General Well-Being
Some clients use Integrated Tactile Music Therapy to maintain their health and overall well-being. The therapy contributes to emotional and mental balance and supports a general sense of well-being.
Enhancement of Sexual Self-Esteem
Integrated Tactile Music Therapy helps foster a positive body image and confidence in one’s own sexuality. The therapy may assist in reducing feelings of guilt and shame related to sexuality.
The Need for a Break
Integrated Tactile Music Therapy offers structured time for mental and physical rest within a busy daily routine. Sessions serve as a restorative pause from everyday demands.
Reduction of Anxiety and Depressive Symptoms
Integrated Tactile Music Therapy alleviates symptoms of anxiety and depression. The therapy promotes a sense of well-being that can unconsciously reduce anxiety and depressive states.
Hormonal Stimulation
Integrated Tactile Music Therapy influences the release of hormones associated with well-being. The therapy triggers the release of neurotransmitters that promote relaxation and pleasure.
Contraindications
Integrated tactile music therapy is not recommended for individuals with the following diagnoses:
- Psychiatric disorders
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Borderline personality disorder
- Severe or acute injuries
- Specific medical conditions
Additionally, it is not suitable for individuals who are under the influence of chemical substances.
Focus on Women’s Health Through Music Therapy
Integrated tactile music therapy offers a unique approach to stress management and to improving women’s emotional and physical health. Studies indicate that women are more vulnerable to stress due to social pressures and overload related to domestic responsibilities (UN, 2017–2018).
Chronic stress can lead to issues such as menstrual irregularities, infertility, headaches, hair loss, chronic fatigue, insomnia, and eating disorders (Newton, 1999; Bertolote, 2001; Carlotto, 2011). Furthermore, women are at a higher risk of developing depressive disorders and anxiety disorders (Bosso, Silva, Costa, 2017).
Music therapy utilizes the scientifically proven effects of music to promote relaxation, regulate heart rate and blood pressure, and improve breathing and overall well-being (Bruscia, 2016).
During sessions, brain structures are activated that help reduce stress and enhance attention and resilience (Dos Santos, 2018).
My goal is to help you reduce health risks and increase your resilience to stress. Through individual or group sessions, we promote emotional, physical, and social development, creating an environment of well-being and personal growth (Bruscia, 2016).
